About This Program

This instructional program is designed to prepare students for entry level through journeyman employment in the commercial sheet metal trade depending on the level completed. Students register for one level at a time and Level 1 must be completed prior to Level 2 Level 2 prior to Level 3 and Level 3 prior to Level 4. Each level is basically 36 weeks and is offered once a year beginning in the fall at a rate of $675 for Level 1 and $675 for each remaining Level 2-4. Students may complete one or more levels as desired unless enrolled in the apprenticeship program in which all four levels must be completed. Classes are taught at the MS Construction Education Foundation Training Centers located throughout the state including in-company programs – For additional information on registration and classes go to www.mcef.net and click on “Education & Training” then “Apprenticeship” or call MCEF at 601-605-2989.Level 1 course includes basic core construction skills and craft specific topics such as Tools of the Trade; Fasteners Hangers and Supports; Installation of Air Distribution Accessories; Insulation; Sheet Metal Layout and Processes; Parallel Line Development. Meets requirements of Year 1 of 4-year apprenticeship program. Level 2 course includes Trade Math Two; Basic Piping Practices; Radial Line Development; Bend Allowances; Blueprints and Specifications; Air Properties and Distribution; Sheet Metal Duct Fabrication Standards; Soldering; Fiberglass Duct. Meets requirements of Year 2 of 4-year apprenticeship program. Level 3 course includes Field Measuring and Fitting; Air Systems; Introduction to Welding Brazing and Cutting; Principles of Refrigeration; Principles of Airflow; Blueprint and Specification Reading; Triangulation; Architectural Sheet Metal. Meets requirements of Year 3 of 4-year apprenticeship program. Level 4 course includes Shop Production and Organization; Air Balance; Louvers Dampers and Access Doors; Fume and Exhaust System Design; Comprehensive Review; Introductory Skills for the Crew Leader. All programs meet or exceed the requirements of a 4 Year apprenticeship programs and are taught by industry professionals with journeyman or master level experience in the trade.
